Johnathan’s approach

Johnathan has a deep empathy for the struggles his clients are facing and feels it’s important to provide a safe place for them to explore what is troubling them. He initially does a general assessment of why clients are seeking therapy as well as their mental health. Together, they outline a plan for treatment and set goals for where they want to see themselves. His clients appreciate Johnathan’s laid back, but not passive, approach to their treatment. Every person and situation is unique, and there is no set formula and time limit that determines when someone is finished with therapy. As a counselor, Johnathan is not there to fix their problems. He is there to help them address their issues and their thinking and give them the tools to change behaviors into healthier, life affirming patterns.

In addition, Johnathan is able to collaborate with psychiatrists and psychopharmacologists when his clients are taking medication, and may suggest that they seek a consultation when they are experiencing increased anxiety, depression or other symptoms. While medication may at times be very helpful for a client’s well-being, it may also provide a foundation, if needed, to support those in psychotherapy that may be particularly painful, especially trauma-focused work. Johnathan doesn’t immediately recommend that his clients take medication, and they thoroughly discuss the pros and cons of medication and its uses in therapy before making a decision to begin that method of treatment.
